Question Regarding Eighteenth Century Handcuffs

I am seeking information of the use of handcuffs during the 1700' in the American colonies and in Great Britian. Did such British law enforcement organizations such as the "Bow Street Runners" in the mid-1700's employ the use of handcuffs? Did the English "Thief-takers" use handcuffs?
