there are different short chain leg irons:
AHC's oversized handcuffs model N-200 is actually a model L-100 leg iron with only five links (about 6 cm long). Walking with them is very hard... But there are Smith & Wessons, too, that are leg irons with a two link chain. And there are czech Ralkem leg irons (very large) with a chain of about 15 cm.
