Antique leg irons?

Hi,

I got some antique leg irons and I don't know anything about their age or manufacturer. Some weeks ago, a simliar type of leg iron was sold on ebay.
The one cuff is puzzle locked, the other with a Darby style lock.
I was told that it could be a device to secure animals in northern africa. Because of the size of these irons I think they are made for humanes.

Have you got some ideas or hints about age or manufacturer?
I have more information on my homepage (german), but I can try to translate it :-).
