It is very easy to open these cuffs if your have the key and are locked in them. They are chain connected so the prisoner is able to twist and turn the cuffs into a position where it is a simple matter to insert the key and turn it. The double lock is a small rectangle on the side of the lock case. It is large enough that you can use your finger or the bit of the key to engage the double lock. Once double locked they will not get any tighter. Turning the key clockwise will release both the single and double lock.
