You ask a very valid question. I would suggest that
as a first rule don't buy any Darby unless it is
marked with the manufacturers name. All the major
companies marked their Darby handcuffs. Hiatt, RCS,
Frogatt, FWSM, Dowler, Nichols, SM Co, SF Co are
English companies that marked their products.
Providence Tool Co. and Thompson are American
companies that marked their Darby handcuffs.

The repros are often marked with numbers, sometimes
with exotic names like Alkatraz, Yuma, Wells Fargo.
But as far as I know they have not started putting
fake manufacturers name on their cuffs. So look
for the company name. If you can't find one, then
the chances are high that you have a cuff made in
recent times.
