A third variation:
I have a third variation. My first model, where you can see the ratchet teeth, is ser. no. 225 and is marked pat.pend.
The models like Joe's model 2 start with serial numbers about 8000, and the earlier ones are marked pat.pend. The later ones, at least by ser. no. in the 14000's are marked pat. 1950757 and other pat. pend. I also have one ser. no. 7456 that uses a thin metal ring to hide the ratchet teeth, instead of being a 1 piece ring. You can see where the end is soldered. I have seen serial numbers over 100,000.

: Kurt

: There are two models of the Iron Claw manufactured
: by Argus Mfg. of Chicago as well as some variations.
: There are also more recent Jay-Pee versions of the
: Iron Claw

: The first model was patented in 1934, the second
: in 1937. The main difference is the round lock
: mechanism that you raise to unlock the cuff. It
: is flush with the barrel of the cuff in the
: Model 1, but it has a raised overlapping design
: in the Model 2.

: The Model 1 is a somewhat rare cuff. The Model 2
: is very common and there is usually one for sale
: on ebay for $50-$60.
